African-Americans are at greater danger of being shot fatally

The statistics for police shootings and killing people shows that there's a higher likelihood of African-Americans being killed over the general population.

African-Americans are more likely to be stopped by police

Studies have shown that police are more likely pull over black motorists in traffic stops.

One of the most recent, a study for 2020 by Stanford University, analysed 100 million traffic stops made by police departments across the US, and found black drivers were about 20 percent more likely to get arrested than white drivers.

The study also revealed that once stopped, black drivers were questioned up to two times as often as white drivers but they had a statistically lower chance to carry illicit objects.

African-Americans are more likely be arrested for drug abuse than whites.

African-Americans are incarcerated for drug use at a greater number than white Americans however, research shows that drug use is at the same amounts. In 2018, 750 out of every 100,000 African-Americans were detained for drug use, compared to around 350 out of each 100,000 white Americans.

 

National surveys of drug use have shown that whites use substances at the same level as African-Americans, however they are much more likely to be detained. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, African-Americans are 3.7 times more likely than whites to be detained for marijuana possession even though they have a similar rates of marijuana use. More African-Americans are being held in jail

African-Americans are in prison at five times the rate of white Americans and twice that of Hispanic-Americans, according to the most recent data. The latest data shows that, while African-Americans comprised about 13% of American population in 2019they accounted for nearly a third of in the population of prisons.

White Americans made up around 30% of the prison population but they accounted for over 60% of the total US population.

That's over 1,000 African-American inmates for every 100,000 African-American residents, which is around 200 white prisoners for every 100,000 white Americans.

The US prison population is defined as inmates who are sentenced to more than one year in a federal or state prison. Inmates' rates of imprisonment have decreased for African-Americans over the last decade however, they constitute more prisoners than any other race.
